TransitCenter, Summit Foundation join Shared Mobility 2030 Action Agenda

By joining the Shared Mobility 2030 Action Agenda, TransitCenter and the Summit Foundation commit to advance shared mobility as a critical solution to the challenges facing cities.

CHICAGO - TransitCenter and the Summit Foundation have joined the Shared Mobility 2030 Action Agenda Network to advance the transition to equitable, affordable, low-carbon, shared mobility options with more than 50 other public, private, and non-profit organizations.

"Joining the Shared Mobility 2030 Action Agenda is an important step for TransitCenter to work collaboratively with other organizations to advance shared mobility as a key solution to the challenges facing our cities,” said Stephanie Lotshaw, acting executive director, TransitCenter. “We believe that frequent, fast, reliable public transit is essential for cities to thrive, and shared mobility options can provide more opportunities to connect people to jobs, healthcare, education, and their community while reducing the cost burden of transportation for households.”

Nick Sifuentes, Summit Foundation’s Program Director for Sustainable Cities, echoed the excitement, explaining, "We are thrilled to participate in the Shared Mobility 2030 Action Agenda as it aligns perfectly with our commitment to achieving a world where people can thrive and nature can flourish. We believe that shifting to sustainable and equitable shared mobility is essential for reducing the transportation sector’s carbon footprint and addressing social, economic, and racial inequity. By joining this collaborative effort, we can achieve a more sustainable and just future for all."

TransitCenter is a foundation that works to secure a more just and sustainable future with abundant public transportation options. TransitCenter says it recognizes that the current transportation system is contributing to climate change, that transit systems poorly serve many of their riders, and that access to opportunity in the U.S. is deeply inequitable because of unjust, historical barriers based on race, gender, culture, and identity. TransitCenter believes that targeted research and effective grassroots advocacy can persuade leaders to make better choices that center both climate and justice outcomes in transportation. The foundation makes grants, conducts research, and coordinates a national network of local advocates to build a successful movement pushing for bold shifts in transportation funding and strategy.

The Summit Foundation, established in 1991, is a private family foundation that promotes the health and well-being of the planet and its people by achieving gender equality, protecting the earth’s biodiversity, and making cities livable. The foundation's grant-making focuses on equality for women and girls, conserving the Mesoamerican reef, and sustainable cities. The Summit Foundation says it believes that shifting the context in which problems are viewed can reveal innovative solutions. The foundation invests in people’s creative, entrepreneurial spirit to achieve deeply rooted change.

By joining the Shared Mobility 2030 Action Agenda, TransitCenter and the Summit Foundation commit to advance shared mobility as a critical solution to the challenges facing cities. Shared mobility is all the options that free people from dependence on private cars for every trip; and includes public transportation, ride-hail, car-sharing, on-demand responsive microtransit, shared bikes and scooters, paratransit, and shared mobility infrastructure such as safe sidewalks, protected bike lanes, complete streets, and shared mobility hubs.

The Action Agenda aims to enable integrated networks of clean, shared mobility options that provide equitable access for all, reduce the cost burden of transportation for households, and cut carbon emissions. Member organizations are committed to making shared mobility more reliable, easier to use, and more available than driving a car while being more equitable, environmentally sustainable, and economically sustainable.

Together, TransitCenter, the Summit Foundation, and other participating organizations will advance the Shared Mobility 2030 Action Agenda to create a more sustainable and equitable future for all.
